Silicone Rubber (VMQ)
  • Silicone Rubber (VMQ)

Silicone rubber is an elastomeric material made up from silicone, carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. VMQ materials provide extreme high temperature characteristics while providing excellent low temperature flexibility. Due to the clean nature of silicone rubbers, they are commonly found in food and pharmaceutical applications as many of the compounds have FDA approval. Silicone rubbers (VMQ) are resistant to ozone, hot air, some oils, vegetable fats, animal fats and brake fluids. They do not, however, have very good resistance to mineral oils.

    Caution using silicone rubber

Caution should be taken when using silicone rubbers (VMQ) as they have poor abrasion resistance, tear resistance and tensile strength. Silicone rubber should not be lubricated using silicone fluids, and mineral oils should be avoided. Due to their poor mechanical properties, it is our recommendation that silicone rubbers (VMQ) should only be utilised for static applications.
