Machined PTFE Seals
In a world where the demand for natural resources is high, the machinery required to access them is now required to work more efficiently and sometimes at elevated temperatures in environmentally friendly fluids that are not compatible with many elastomers.
Environments like these are where engineered PTFE seals come into their own.
The unique properties of PTFE mean seals can be offered with lower frictional properties, increased chemical and thermal resistance while working at higher speeds and pressures than ever before.
M Seals manufactures a vast selection of standard PTFE seals such as spring energised seals, O-ring energised composite seals, rotary seals and scraper seals to suit most applications and can provide bespoke engineered solutions for special situations.

The O-Rings energise the scraper element and provide an effective barrier to stop ingress penetrating into the housing. The AB26 provides two functions, a positive scarping action to prevent ingress of foreign particles into the system and a sealing action which prevents residual oil film from escaping into the environment when the piston rod is extended.
By using material combinations of PTFE and an elastomer O-Ring this product can be made suitable for a wide range of applications that may see high temperatures and/or aggressive media.

AB27 Temperature Min: -50°C Max: 210°C

FB01 Pressure: Max: --
Temperature Min: -200°C Max: 200°C
Speed Max: 5 m/sDMR Seals FB01 profile is a tight tolerance guide ring / wear ring which can be manufactured from a number of our high-performance thermoplastic materials to provide precise clearance control of mating metallic hardware members in fluid power or pneumatic systems.
The tight tolerance control on the FB01 profile ensures excellent bearing contact which helps minimise and control misalignment while the piston or rod is under static or dynamic load which helps significantly increase seal life when compared to high volume moulded rings.
FB01 is supplied either in solid format or split for ease of installation and can be supplied with spiral grooves on the main contact surface to prevent entrapped pressure between the seal and the guide ring itself. The addition of these grooves can also help eliminate jet-erosion, which is where the high-pressure fluid of the hydraulic system is forced through the localised split in the ring and damages the seal.
Please contact our technical department for further information on the correct material choice for your application.

KB09A Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 1.5 m/sDesigned for use on one-piece solid pistons the KB09A is a 4-piece double acting/bi-directional piston seal comprising of a central filled PTFE sealing element, elastomeric energising ring and precision machined thermoplastic guide rings which are split to allow assembly onto the solid piston.
The precision machined guide/wear rings allow higher working pressures and larger clearance gaps between the hardware components.
The central sealing element is energised by the elastomer ring which provides initial radial compression upon installation to provide low pressure sealing, when subjected to system pressure the seal energises to provide further compressive force and leak tightness. While offering extrusion resistance the guide rings also support and centralise the piston head while reciprocating in the hydraulic cylinder and help prevent metal to metal contact under side load conditions
The KB09A can be offered in several material combinations for use in high temperatures and/or to provide enhanced chemical resistance.

KB14 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 10 m/sThe KB14 seal is a special spring energised seals primarily intended for dynamic applications where reciprocating or moderate rotating movement is present. The P14 is used in applications where a standard cross section of seal cannot be used or where the seal requires an in-built stand-off ring to avoid crushing under potential back-pressure build up.
It can be used in applications where large gland tolerances exist or where there is a need for higher deflection due to expansion caused by high pressure duty. The seal is commonly used in foundries in place of standard rubber and fabric chevron seals where fluid compatibility is an issue or where extreme high temperature is present.
The seal consists of a U-shaped jacket and 2 cantilever springs which are available in 301 Stainless steel, Hastelloy® C-276 and Elgiloy® as standard. The cantilever spring design offers a moderate load versus deflection which is suitable for most applications. The design of the cantilever spring places the spring load at the front of the sealing lip making the KB14 seal an excellent option should a scraper lip be required for abrasive media sealing or scraping.

KB19 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C

The design of the cantilever spring places the spring load at the front of the sealing lip making the CSE series an excellent option should a scraper lip be required for abrasive media sealing.
It is designed for non-standard groove sizes in repair situations.

KB25 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 1 m/sKB25 profile is a heavy-duty spring energised seal commonly used in heavy industry such as steel plants as a good replacement for rubber fabric seals that fail due to compatibility issues. The seal requires a 2-piece housing for installation purposes and correct function.
The helical spring energiser within the seal provides the initial pre-load for static sealing while the system pressure enhances the sealing function by further energising the sealing lips. The seal is used in areas where high temperatures can be seen and/or where a seal is required that has broad fluid / media compatibility.
The seal has a useful operating speed and can be manufactured from non-abrasive PTFE materials to protect hardware components from wear and abrasion.

SB112A Pressure Max: 315 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 1.5 m/sCommonly used as a stem seal on control valves, the SB112A is a multipart Chevron sealing set which can be manufactured from several our high-performance PTFE or modified PTFE compounds. The set comprises of a male pressure ring, several intermediate V-Rings and a female header/support ring. The female header/support ring is normally manufactured using a modified PTFE (typically glass filled) which provides higher extrusion resistance to the seal which in turn increases life expectancy.
The geometry of the SB112A is modified to give exceptional sealing capability in low-pressure applications where standard designs would allow pressure bypass due to the low elasticity of PTFE. Unlike standard chevron sets the use of multiple V-Rings in the set is possible due to the low friction nature of PTFE.
PTFE chevron sealing sets require the permanent use of a spring element to provide the seal with what is commonly referred to as ‘live-loading’ which helps prevent seal deformation under thermal influences. In the case of the SB112A, spring pre-tension of 0.2 N/mm² is suggested although it is understood that greater spring force will improve leakage performance, it may have a negative impact on seal wear.
PTFE packing sets can also be manually adjusted by the engineer using an adjustable gland housing to give a further degree of squeeze/crush on the seal if the set starts to show signs of leakage.

SB112A-MS Pressure Max: 315 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 1.5 m/sThe SB112A-MS is a modification on its sister seal the SB112A and our recommendation for valve stem seals using live-loading.
This new profile has the benefit of having a modified geometry allowing the seal set to include more intermediate chevron V’s within the same groove length. The extra sealing rings within this pack provide increased sealing redundancy, but dot increase the frictional output due to the exceptional properties of PTFE.
Proven in many valve applications and available in a multitude of PTFE materials, contact us to see how the SB112A-MS can work for you.
