Machined Rod Seals
Rod Seals are typically single acting/uni-directional but can also be provided in a double acting/bi-directional configuration if the application demands. Rod seals are normally installed into female glands providing a static seal across the outside diameter and dynamic sealing against a reciprocating piston rod. The main purpose of a rod seal is to prevent leakage of fluid or media into the atmosphere, therefore the correct choice of rod seal is probably the most important factor when designing or repairing a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder.
M Seals offers a wide range of high performance rod seal profiles to provide the best possible solution for a large variety of applications. We can provide you with engineered sealing solutions for applications involving high pressure, low pressure, high speed, high temperature and extreme low temperature. When our rod seals are combined with the correct range of wiper seals, guide rings and piston seals, you can be assured of leak free, long life performance.
IMPORTANT - Please Note: The data shown below are maximum values and operating ranges and cannot be used at the same time.
For example: The maximum operating speed will depend on material type chosen, working pressure, application temperature and clearance gap values. The temperature range shown is also dependent on choice of material and media to be sealed.

SB02B Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB02B profile is an asymmetric single acting / uni-directional hydraulic rod u-cup seal which is designed to help reduce the frictional footprint of the seal in dynamic applications via the inclusion of a secondary PTFE sealing element within the back heel of the main seal body.
Like other asymmetric seals the SB02B has an interference fit along its outside diameter to ensure a stable fit in the housing and to provide a tight leak free static seal across the outside diameter. The inclusion of the secondary PTFE sealing ring not only provides another sealing edge, but it also acts as a lubrication reservoir helping to reduce friction and help reduce the chance of stick-slip.

SB02C Pressure Max: 700 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sOur SB02C seal profile is normally used as a primary seal in tandem sealing configurations. It’s aim is to act as a buffer to any sudden pressure spikes within the system and protect the secondary seal from any damage this pressure spike could cause.
It is not designed to provide a 100% seal, but to take the initial shock load from the system pressure and protect the seal behind it from damage while allowing enough fluid to bypass and energise the secondary seal.
The seal can normally be retrofitted into composite seal grooves so does not require a lot of space within the gland area. It is available in a variety of materials but is generally supplied in polyurethane.

SB03 Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sOur SB03 profile is an asymmetric single acting / uni-directional hydraulic rod u-cup seal complete with an O-Ring energizer which is recommended for low pressures, soft start systems or applications where leak free tightness is paramount above all else.
The O-Ring energiser in this seal provides further sealing force across the sealing lips to ensure leak free performance even at low or zero pressure. The seal has a shortened dynamic lip for improved low friction and has an interference fit along its outside diameter to ensure a stable fit in the housing and to provide a tight leak free static seal.
The SB03 profile is available in several of M Seals’s high performance materials to provide the designer or repairer with exceptional extrusion resistance, low compression set and outstanding wear properties.

SB03A Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sOur SB03A profile is an asymmetric single acting / uni-directional hydraulic rod u-cup seal complete with both an O-Ring energizer and multiple sealing lips. The O-Ring energiser helps sealing at low pressures, while the multiple sealing lips provide some sealing redundancy and lubrication reservoirs to help reduce friction in dynamic applications.
This seal has been used with great success as a replacement for static O-Rings that may see occasional dynamic movement and can be manufactured to suit most internationally recognised O-Ring groove sizes.
It is available in several of M Seals’s high performance materials to provide increased extrusion resistance, low compression set and outstanding wear properties

SB04 Pressure Max: 700 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB04 profile is a modification of both our SB02 and SB03 profiles. The inclusion of the pressure activated back-up ring offers extrusion resistance and ensures safe use at higher pressures with the correct choice of back-up ring material. The use of the SB04 profile can also allow the design engineer to use larger radial clearances where metal to metal contact must be avoided.
The O-Ring energizer offers increased sealing ability in low pressure or soft start systems where standard rod seals would allow low pressure fluid bypass.
Standard sealing materials for this profile include Polyurethane and Nitrile rubber, but these can be altered if required to suit the application requirements.

SB05 Pressure Max: 25 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 2 m/sThe SB05 Profile is used in pneumatic sealing systems where low friction and high-speed sealing performance are critical. The low footprint, radiused sealing lip gathers fluid film and the undercut on the inside diameter locks in initial lubrication, both features are unique in pneumatic rod seal design and help to considerably lower frictional values.
The seal is manufactured with an interference fit across the outside diameter which provides the SB05 with stability in the groove while the piston rod reciprocates through the seal.
The SB05 profile is available in a variety of our high-performance materials, but our lubricated polyurethane is most common

SB05A Pressure Max: 25 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 1 m/sThe SB05A Profile is for use in pneumatic sealing systems where sealing performance is chosen over frictional output.
The radiused sealing lip gathers fluid film to help lower frictional values while the shaft is reciprocating at high speed. The seal is manufactured with an interference fit across the outside diameter which provides the SB05A with stability in the groove helping to prevent any possible seal roll while under pressure.
The SB05A profile is commonly used in our standard Nitrile rubber material, but others are available if the application requires

SB06 Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB06 profile is a symmetrical lipped seal and is commonly used in the repair market as it can function in both rod and piston applications.
Although popular, the SB06 is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application, this is because the profile is centralised to the seal groove and is susceptible to tilting and/or rolling in its groove when under pressure causing the back-heel of the seal to come into contact with the dynamic surface causing increased friction.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB06A Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB06A profile is a modification of the more standard SB06 seal. It too is a symmetrical lipped seal and is commonly used in the repair markets as it can function in both rod and piston application, however it has improved groove geometry to allow it to be used in applications that require a greater degree of deflection over the sealing lips. This improved geometry is suitable for applications that may see large instances of misalignment between the mating hardware faces or where inaccurate housing dimensions may be in place.
Like its sister profile, the SB06A is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application, this is because the profile is centralised to the seal groove and is susceptible to tilting and/or rolling in its groove when under pressure causing the back-heel of the seal to come into contact with the dynamic surface causing increased friction.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB07 Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB07 profile is a symmetrical lipped O-Ring energised U-Cup seal and is commonly used in the hydraulic repair market as it can function in both rod and piston applications.
The O-Ring energiser in this seal provides further sealing force across the sealing lips to ensure leak free performance even at low or zero pressure. Although a popular choice, the SB07 is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application.
This profile can be provided in any of our high-performance materials, talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB07A Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB07A profile is a symmetrical lipped energised U-Cup seal that provides both primary and secondary sealing functions.
The primary elastomeric sealing element provides excellent dry rod sealing performance and is commonly used in both safety and environmentally critical applications where rod seal leakage could be catastrophic.
The main U-Cup seal body is produced from one of our polyurethane materials and provides a secondary sealing lip for redundant sealing. This secondary lip also helps trap initial lubrication between both sealing lips to help reduce the frictional output under dynamic movement.
Talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB07Q Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB07Q is a modification of our standard SB07 profile and has been designed to help provide a more positive sealing effect directly to the main seal lips.
The X-Ring energiser used in this seal is less susceptible to being blown out from the energiser cavity as can sometimes happen when pressure bypasses and becomes lodged behind the more common O-Ring energiser .
the SB07Q like its sister seal is not recommended for new designs or where the user can be sure of the profile required for their application.
Talk to our technical department about the best choice for your application.

SB08 Pressure Max: 400 barTemperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB08 profile has been designed for applications where the O-Ring energised profiles such as SB03 and SB07 cannot be used due to radial gland space being tight.
The SB08 operates in low pressure or soft start situations where the hydraulic system takes time to work up to full working pressure, a situation where standard U-Ring designs would possibly allow pressure bypass or seepage.
Capable of sealing up to 400 bar in any of our Polyurethane materials, the SB08 is a popular choice where radial gland space is limited.

SB09 Pressure Max: 600 bar
Temperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 10 m/sProfile SB09 is a compact single acting / uni-directional composite Rod Seal which consists of a either a main PTFE or Hard PU sealing element and an elastomeric O-Ring energiser.
The O-Ring energises the sealing element and provides an effective leak free barrier around the outside diameter of the seal groove.
The special design of the SB09 profile allows trapped fluid pressure to be released back into the system when the piston rod is on its return stroke. Because of this feature this seal can be used in multiples to provide sealing redundancy or in conjunction with our SB17 profile to provide a complete leak free sealing configuration.
By using the combination of a PTFE sealing element and the correct elastomer O-Ring this product can be made suitable for a wide range of situations including low friction, high temperature or where aggressive chemical media is the main system fluid

SB09A Pressure Max: 600 bar
Temperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 10 m/sProfile SB09A is a heavy duty compact single acting / uni-directional composite Rod Seal which consists of a either a main PTFE or Hard PU sealing element and an elastomeric square section energiser.

The O-Ring energises the sealing element and provides an effective leak free barrier around the outside diameter of the seal groove.
The design of the SB09B profile seals fluid pressure from both sides of the seal, which can be useful when used in tandem seal configurations where it may be required to prevent fluids from external environmental sources entering the hydraulic system.
By using the combination of a PTFE sealing element and the correct elastomer O-Ring this product can be made suitable for a wide range of situations including low friction, high temperature or where aggressive chemical media is the main system fluid.

SB09C Pressure Max: 600 barTemperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 10 m/sProfile SB09C is a heavy duty compact double acting / bi-directional composite Rod Seal which consists of a either a main PTFE or Hard PU sealing element and an elastomeric square section energiser.
The energiser provides positive compression onto the sealing element and provides an effective leak free barrier around the outside diameter of the seal groove. The design of the SB09B profile seals fluid pressure from both sides of the seal, which can be useful when used in tandem seal configurations where it may be required to prevent fluids from external environmental sources entering the hydraulic system.
By using the combination of a PTFE sealing element and the correct elastomeric energiser this product can be made suitable for a wide range of situations including low friction, high temperature or where aggressive chemical media is the main system fluid

SB09D Pressure Max: 600 barTemperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 10 m/sOur SB09D profile is a modification of our standard SB09 seal where the geometry of the dynamic sealing lip on the inside diameter has been altered to help prevent damage to the lips at the point of installation.
It is a compact single acting / uni-directional composite Rod Seal which consists of a either a main PTFE or Hard PU sealing element and an elastomeric O-Ring energiser.
The O-Ring energises the sealing element and provides an effective leak free barrier around the outside diameter of the seal groove.
The special design of the SB09D profile allows fluid film on the stroking piston rod to be returned into the system when on its return stroke. Because of this feature this seal can be used in tandem to provide sealing redundancy or in conjunction with our SB17 profile to provide a complete leak free sealing configuration.
By using the combination of a PTFE sealing element and the correct elastomer O-Ring this product can be made suitable for a wide range of situations including low friction, high temperature or where aggressive chemical media is the main system fluid.

SB09E Pressure Max: 600 barTemperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 10 m/sProfile SB09E is a modification of our standard SB09B profile. The side walls of the seal are tapered away from the groove walls and the clearance gap between the mating hardware. This feature helps the seal withstand higher pressures than the normal deign or allows the design engineer freedom to increase the clearance gap between the metalwork helping to prevent possible metal-to-metal contact and subsequent damage.
The seal is a compact double acting /bi-directional rod composite seal which consists of a either a main PTFE or Hard PU sealing element and an elastomeric O-Ring energiser.
The O-Ring energises the sealing element and provides an effective leak free barrier around the outside diameter of the seal groove.
By using the combination of a PTFE sealing element and the correct elastomer O-Ring this product can be made suitable for a wide range of situations including low friction, high temperature or where aggressive chemical media is the main system fluid.

SB11 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sProfile SB11 is the intermediate chevron packing ring from our SB112 profile. It can be used individually in certain circumstances where the profiled female support ring may already be profiled as part of the metallic hardware. This is sometimes appropriate in older hardware and fluid sealing systems such as presses used in steel plants. To offer the SB11 individually we must have confirmation of the mating hardware dimensions, specifically the angles where the non-pressure side of the seal will be seated.
SB112 Pressure Max: 500 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB112 chevron packing set is an old and trusted sealing solution. The design of this set provides automatic pre-load which means the engineer doesn’t have to make manual adjustments to the seal gland which is common when using rubber & fabric packing sets.
The intermediate V-rings are stacked on top of each other to provide redundant sealing capability which is useful when the primary seal fails. The choice of too many V-rings though can see the packing set ‘burnout’ through increased friction from a lack of fluid film being present on the shaft, we recommend a maximum of 3 rings in rod applications. If more rings are necessary then our SB112B profile manufactured in one of our high performance internally lubricated Polyurethane’s should be considered. The female header ring is normally manufactured from a common engineering plastic or hard grade Polyurethane to provide extrusion resistance and to provide stability in the gland. The force of the system pressure into the primary male pressure ring increases sealing force by ensuring that the V-rings are energised and further activated under pressure.
Common materials are PU and POM, but several different materials can be provided to suit most applications – Please talk to our technical department if you need assistance with your application.

SB112A Pressure Max: 315 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 1.5 m/sCommonly used as a stem seal on control valves, the SB112A is a multipart Chevron sealing set which can be manufactured from several our high-performance PTFE or modified PTFE compounds. The set comprises of a male pressure ring, several intermediate V-Rings and a female header/support ring. The female header/support ring is normally manufactured using a modified PTFE (typically glass filled) which provides higher extrusion resistance to the seal which in turn increases life expectancy.
The geometry of the SB112A is modified to give exceptional sealing capability in low-pressure applications where standard designs would allow pressure bypass due to the low elasticity of PTFE. Unlike standard chevron sets the use of multiple V-Rings in the set is possible due to the low friction nature of PTFE.
PTFE chevron sealing sets require the permanent use of a spring element to provide the seal with what is commonly referred to as ‘live-loading’ which helps prevent seal deformation under thermal influences. In the case of the SB112A, spring pre-tension of 0.2 N/mm² is suggested although it is understood that greater spring force will improve leakage performance, it may have a negative impact on seal wear.
PTFE packing sets can also be manually adjusted by the engineer using an adjustable gland housing to give a further degree of squeeze/crush on the seal if the set starts to show signs of leakage.

SB112A-MS Pressure Max: 315 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 1.5 m/sThe SB112A-MS is a modification on its sister seal the SB112A and our recommendation for valve stem seals using live-loading.
This new profile has the benefit of having a modified geometry allowing the seal set to include more intermediate chevron V’s within the same groove length. The extra sealing rings within this pack provide increased sealing redundancy, but dot increase the frictional output due to the exceptional properties of PTFE.
Proven in many valve applications and available in a multitude of PTFE materials, contact us to see how the SB112A-MS can work for you.

SB112B Pressure Max: 500 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB112B chevron packing set has been specifically modified to improve the frictional footprint of the intermediate sealing V’s. A simple lubrication reservoir has been added into the side wall of the sealing element to aid lubrication in long stroke or high-frequency applications.
The design of this set provides automatic pre-load which means the engineer doesn’t have to make manual adjustments to the seal gland or crush the seal which is common when using older rubber & fabric packing sets.
The intermediate V-rings are stacked on top of each other to provide redundant sealing capability which is useful when the primary seal fails. We recommend a maximum of 3 sealing rings, but up to 5 can be used with this profile, but we suggest that the seal be manufactured in one of our high performance internally lubricated Polyurethanes to help prevent stick-slip caused.

SB112C Pressure Max: 500 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB112C chevron packing set is a retrofit sealing solution for a very old rubber-fabric seal design commonly called the SEA Ring. We do not recommend this seal design and where permitted; we would recommend it be changed to a more standard sealing design like our SB112 profile.
The design of this set requires the engineer to make manual load adjustments (crushing the seal) to the seal gland as is common when using rubber & fabric packing sets.
This design is normally used in very large diameter presses and it can be used without the female support ring in certain circumstances where the ring may already be profiled as part of the metallic hardware.

SB112D Pressure Max: 500 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB112D chevron packing set has been specifically modified to provide a “dry rod” sealing function and is a great choice where sealing function is paramount. The addition of the profiled energised seal at the base of the pack provides increased sealing ability and is an excellent addition should the packing set require a scarf split setup for easier installation.
The design of this set provides automatic pre-load which means the engineer doesn’t have to make manual adjustments to the seal gland or crush the seal which is common when using older rubber & fabric packing sets. The force of the system pressure into the primary energised seal increases sealing force by ensuring that the V-rings are energised and further activated under pressure.
The 2 intermediate V-rings are stacked on top of each other to provide redundant sealing capability behind the primary energised seal which is again useful in conditions where the seal needs to be split.
Common materials are PU and NBR, but several different materials can be provided to suit most applications – Please talk to our technical department if you need assistance with your application.

SB112E Pressure Max: 600 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB112E chevron packing set has been modified with radiused intermediate chevron rings to improve high-pressure sealing.
The design of this set provides automatic pre-load which means the engineer doesn’t have to make manual adjustments to the seal gland or crush the seal which is common when using older rubber & fabric packing sets.
The radiused intermediate V-rings are stacked on top of each other to provide redundant sealing capability which is useful when the primary seal fails. We recommend 3 sealing rings in rod applications and suggest that the seal be manufactured in one of our high performance internally lubricated Polyurethanes to help prevent stick-slip.

SB17 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB17 profile is a high-performance modification of our standard SB01 rod seal and is commonly used in telescopic hydraulic cylinders. The inclusion of a secondary sealing lip situated toward the front of the seal makes this seal a good choice where improved sealing performance may be required.
The secondary sealing lip not only provides redundant sealing behind the primary sealing lip, but also helps retain initial installation lubrication creating a reservoir between the pair of the sealing lips. This lubrication reservoir helps prevent dry running and greatly reduces seal wear.
The SB17 can in some cases be used as an alternative to tandem sealing arrangements where an economical sealing solution is required.

SB17A Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB17A profile has a modified sealing lip geometry with increased compression to provide positive sealing in low-pressure or soft-start hydraulic systems.
The secondary sealing lip not only provides redundant sealing behind the primary sealing lip, but also helps retain initial installation lubrication creating a reservoir between the pair of the sealing lips. This lubrication reservoir helps prevent dry running and greatly reduces seal wear, both of which are of great importance in telescopic hydraulic cylinders.
The SB17 can in some cases be used as an alternative to tandem sealing arrangements where an economical sealing solution is required.

SB17B Pressure Max: 700 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB17B profile is a modification of our standard SB17 rod seal. This profile not only has the inclusion of a secondary sealing lip situated toward the front of the seal, but it also includes an anti-extrusion ring to enable its use at higher pressures or where large hardware clearance gaps are present.
The secondary sealing lip not only provides redundant sealing behind the primary sealing lip, but also helps retain initial installation lubrication creating a reservoir between the pair of the sealing lips. This lubrication reservoir helps prevent dry running and greatly reduces seal wear.

Speed Max: 0.7 m/sThe SB17C profile has a modified sealing lip geometry with increased compression to provide positive sealing in low-pressure or soft-start hydraulic systems while also including an anti-extrusion / back-up ring for sealing at higher pressures or where hardware clearance gaps are present.

SB18 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sOur SB18 profile is an asymmetric single acting / uni-directional hydraulic rod u-cup seal complete with a secondary sealing lip and an O-Ring energizer which is recommended for low pressures, soft start systems or applications where leak free tightness is paramount above all else.
The secondary sealing lip not only provides redundant sealing behind the primary sealing lip, but also helps retain initial installation lubrication creating a reservoir between the pair of the sealing lips. This lubrication reservoir helps prevent dry running and greatly reduces seal wear.

SB18A Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sOur SB18A profile is a modification of the standard SB18 O-Ring energised U-Cup seals profile and includes a secondary sealing lip on both its inside and outside diameters.
The secondary sealing lips not only provide redundant sealing behind the primary sealing lips, but also help retain initial installation lubrication creating a reservoir between the pair of the sealing lips. This lubrication reservoir helps prevent dry running and greatly reduces seal wear.
The secondary sealing lip on the outside diameter prevents bypass through the gland O.D. and is also useful at preventing moisture from entering the system from the non-pressure side, something which is very useful when sealing hydraulic cylinders operating in vertical applications

SB19 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 15 m/sThe SB19 seal is primarily intended for dynamic applications where reciprocating movement is present but can also be used in static applications where large gland tolerances exist or where there is a need for higher deflection due to expansion caused by high pressure duty. The seal consists of a U-shaped jacket and a cantilever spring both of which can be tailored to suit both high-temperature and conditions where good chemical compatibility is required.
The design of the cantilever spring places the spring load at the front of the sealing lip making it a good option should a scraper lip be required for abrasive media sealing.
It is designed for non-standard groove sizes in repair situations.

SB20 Pressure Max: 2000 bar
Temperature Min: -50 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.5 m/sOriginally designed for use as a retrofit for standard O-Rings and Back-Ups, the SB20 is an excellent all-round performer and the seal of choice where a compact double acting/bi-directional seal is required for either static or slow-moving applications.
Profile SB20 excels in both low and high-pressure applications while also having the ability to operate at both high and low temperatures and in a multitude of different media through the correct choice of material combination.
It provides superior resistance to extrusion through its specially designed active Back-Up rings. Under system pressure the seal flange lifts the Back-Up Rings to block the clearance gap, protecting the sealing bulb at all times.
A common failure mode of using O-Rings and Back-Up rings in dynamic applications is spiral failure which occurs when the O-Ring rolls or twists in the groove under dynamic movement, this failure mode is completely prevented through choosing the SB20 profile.

SB22 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sSB22 is a pressure activated packing set that comprises of a main U-ring sealing element and a male pressure/support ring.
The main U-Ring sealing element is designed to provide initial sealing force across the sealing faces upon installation. Sealing force is increased under system pressure through the pressure/support ring being forced into the U-shaped cavity, this spreads the sealing lips further to add increased seal contact force.
The SB22 can also be used in low-pressure applications by using the seal in an adjustable gland/housing and compressing the seal slightly in its groove. Over compressing the seal however will result in increased seal wear which in-turn decreases seal life.
Although the SB22 is an old design of seal and the use of a more advanced sealing solution is recommended, it is still favoured by users of older hydraulic equipment commonly used in the steel industry.

SB24 Pressure Max: 700 bar
Temperature Min: -55 °C Max: 210 °C
Speed Max: 0.7 m/sCommonly used in heavy duty agricultural, mobile plant and mining hydraulic applications, the SB24 is the first-choice rod seal where harsh operating conditions exist or where extreme pressure spikes exist in hydraulic systems.
The SB24 is a hybrid seal which takes the designs of various seals to provide a complete all-round performer which is capable in almost all situations that may arise in a hydraulic application.
The seal is energised by an O-Ring to provide superior low-pressure leakage performance while offering a secondary lip for redundant sealing. This secondary sealing lip creates a cavity towards the centre of the seal which retains initial installation lubrication, this prevents dry-running and vastly decreases seal wear which in-turn increases seal life. The inclusion of a Back-Up ring allows the seal to work at very high pressures or in applications where the clearance gap needs to be larger than that suggested for standard rod seal designs.
SB24 can be used in tandem with one of our buffer seal designs should this device be required and is available in a vast choice of materials to suit your application requirements

SB25 Pressure Max: 400 bar
Temperature Min: -200 °C Max: 260 °C
Speed Max: 1 m/sSB25 profile is a heavy-duty spring energised seal commonly used in heavy industry such as steel plants as a good replacement for rubber fabric seals that fail due to compatibility issues. The seal requires a 2-piece housing for installation purposes and correct function.
The helical spring energiser within the seal provides the initial pre-load for static sealing while the system pressure enhances the sealing function by further energising the sealing lips. The seal is used in areas where high temperatures can be seen and/or where a seal is required that has broad fluid / media compatibility.
The seal has a useful operating speed and can be manufactured from non-abrasive PTFE materials to protect hardware components from wear and abrasion.
