Guide rings
M Seals offers an expansive range of guide rings to the design engineer and repairer where the prevention of metal-to-metal contact and low frictional loss in hydraulic fluid power and pneumatic sealing systems is critical.
Guide Rings are referred to under many different names, Bearing Rings, Wear Rings, Slip Rings and Wear Strips, but they all have the same task of guiding pistons and rods in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and preventing metal-to-metal contact of the hardware components in the system.
The correct choice of guide ring can ensure trouble free service and prolonged seal life. If you have a problem with misalignment, contamination in the hydraulic system through metalwork contact or are looking for a guide ring to withstand high radial bearing load, offer low friction, work at high temperature or all of these requirements together, contact our technical department for advice.
M Seals manufactures high quality precise tolerance guide rings from a variety of high performance materials such as Lubricated Polyester fabric Laminate (often referred to as Phenolic), Polyacetal, Lubricated Nylons, PEEK, Various PTFE’s and Polyimide.
IMPORTANT - Please Note: The data shown below are maximum values and operating ranges and cannot be used at the same time.
For example: The maximum operating speed will depend on material type chosen, working pressure, application temperature and clearance gap values. The temperature range shown is also dependent on choice of material and media to be sealed.

FB01 Pressure: Max: --
Temperature Min: -200°C Max: 200°C
Speed Max: 5 m/sFB01 profile is a tight tolerance guide ring / wear ring which can be manufactured from a number of our high-performance thermoplastic materials to provide precise clearance control of mating metallic hardware members in fluid power or pneumatic systems.
The tight tolerance control on the FB01 profile ensures excellent bearing contact which helps minimise and control misalignment while the piston or rod is under static or dynamic load which helps significantly increase seal life when compared to high volume moulded rings.
FB01 is supplied either in solid format or split for ease of installation and can be supplied with spiral grooves on the main contact surface to prevent entrapped pressure between the seal and the guide ring itself. The addition of these grooves can also help eliminate jet-erosion, which is where the high-pressure fluid of the hydraulic system is forced through the localised split in the ring and damages the seal.

FB02 Pressure: Max: --
Temperature Min: -200°C Max: 200°C
Speed Max: 5 m/sFB02 profile is a precise tolerance part which is generally utilised as a plain washer or spacer ring to fill the void created by over machining of standard gland widths. It is also commonly used in adjustable chevron packing set glands as a packer where further axial compression is required on to the main sealing device to increase compressive load (commonly known as live loading) and improve leakage control, this process generally applies to older equipment types utilising rubber/fabric composite materials.
The FB02 can be supplied in either endless (solid) or split formats.

The tight tolerance control on the FB03 profile ensures excellent bearing contact which helps minimise and control misalignment while the piston or rod is under static or dynamic load which helps significantly increase seal life when compared to high volume moulded rings. This profile can be provided either solid or split for ease of installation and is commonly utilised in tandem alongside double acting (bi-directional) piston seals working on a split / two-piece piston as per our piston seal profile KB17 and in single acting (uni-directional) applications such as our profile XB51 where it can be used as a combined back-up ring and guide ring.
FB03 can be supplied with spiral grooves on the main contact surface to prevent entrapped pressure between the seal and the guide ring itself. The addition of these grooves can also help eliminate jet -erosion, which is where the high-pressure fluid of the hydraulic system is forced through the localised split in the ring and damages the seal.
