Enhanced Seal Performance in a Resin Pump
A customer approached us with an ongoing reliability issue in a resin pump application. The pumps were fitted with PTFE spring‑energised seals, but during operation the internal springs were working their way out of the sealing jackets.Solution
After conducting a review of the seal's operating conditions, we proposed a modified SB19 profile. The PTFE seal jacket would feature a dual retention lip, which would secure the energising spring, significantly reducing the likelihood of spring displacement during operation.
In addition, we recommended the addition of a scraper lip on the dynamic sealing lip, to improve the seal’s ability to manage resin build-up and contamination.
By doing this we enhanced the seal performance.
Result
The upgraded seal performed exceptionally well during testing and in live production. There were no further issues with spring displacement and the customer therefore saw improved sealing performance.
The success of this improvement led the customer to place ongoing call‑off orders for the redesigned seal and they have since asked us to support them on multiple additional parts and development projects.
