Circlips
Circlips (also known as Retaining rings or Snap rings) are semi-flexible fasteners designed to fix elements onto a shaft or in a bore/dwelling when assembled in a groove. seals or scraper rings on the cylinder rod. Circlips are are semi-flexible retaining rings which snap into position, typically within a groove to prevent them from moving.
The name is a combination of ‘circle’ and ‘clip’ and once fixed (snapped) in place, the design of the circlip exposes a ’shoulder’ that acts as the sercure fixing within the housing.
Circlips are often used in assemblies subjected to strong centrifugal forces, and applications with high rotational speeds. Circlips solve common engineering problems such as clearance diameter, flexible and radial installation, tolerance take-up and thrust load capacity.
- Axially installed into machined grooves in housings/bores (internal) or on shafts (external)
- Have lug holes for ease of installation/removal
- Make uniform contact when released in a groove
- Can accommodate higher thrust loadings
M Seals stock a wide range of retainers in a variety of designs and materials including standard phosphate spring steel clips, stainless steel, phosphor bronze with special designs/coatings also availble.
